case study: welsh development agency

WDA Source Wales Pressworking Sector Study

WDA Source Wales was designed to develop the business capabilities within the region to assist Welsh companies in capitalising on supply opportunities identified within or outside of Wales.

The South East Division of Source Wales found that general presswork requirements for the region were not being fully met by Welsh-based suppliers.

The perception was that companies were not able to meet competitive pressures from Midland pressworkers, and they were losing business as a result.

Allman Horrocks Consulting was commissioned to undertake comparative study was therefore initiated by SE Division of Source Wales to evaluate perceptions and to establish the reasons behind supplier selection for presswork components for Welsh-based customers in the two main sectors, automotive and electronic.

The research involved interviews with the main customers within the two chosen sectors to determine their selection criteria for pressed components and also to explore their views on the ability of Welsh presswork companies to meet these requirements.

The research was then used to develop a programme of support for Welsh pressworkers in order to improve their competitiveness and enable them to meet the requirements of their local customers.

In addition to this project with WDA Source Wales, we have undertaken a number of other similar studies, some targeted at investigating the work carried out by various departments within the organisation itself.
